Servo Kinetics, Inc. was selected by Fidelity Technologies Corporation (Fidelity), headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania, recently to perform the refurbishment of a NAVAIR flight simulator motion system, at the (NAS) Naval Air Station, Norfolk, Virginia. The Singer/Link simulator is an MH-53E Helicopter and is used primarily for Airborne Mine Counter-Measures (AMCM), with secondary missions of vertical shipboard delivery and assault support.

Fidelity subcontracted two partners for the MH-53E refurbishment. Servo Kinetics, Inc. (SKI) of Ann Arbor, Michigan, to refurbish the motion actuators and mounting components; and Binghamton Simulator Company (BSC), Binghamton, New York, was selected to manage the removal, shipping and reinstallation of the actuators, and mounting systems, as well as perform hydraulic system maintenance and the final acceptance tests for the U.S. Navy.

Paul L. Patterson, Fidelity Director and Program Manager, said, “SKI was selected because of their own experience with them, the high level of simulator motion systems expertise and technical capability, and because of the consistently high quality of their work. SKI was also selected because this project required the actuators and mounting components to be refurbished within a 30-day window, in order to meet the NAVAIR 45-day project completion requirements – there was no room for mistakes or delays.” SKI delivered in three and a half weeks!

“BSC was selected because they specialize in simulator relocations, upgrades and logistics, and because they have a long history and unique knowledge of Singer Link simulators – many of the BSC people are former engineers, managers and technical staff from the original Link Flight Simulation Division of the Singer Company. They are professionals who know what they are doing.”

Paul L. Patterson said, “This project really shows what you can do when you put a team of the best people together. The Navy wanted a complete, top-quality refurbishment of the MH-53E simulators motion system, and they wanted it completed in six weeks, and that was done with time to spare. The Fidelity’, BSC and SKI people all performed their part without a flaw.”

Mission Accomplished!
